Technical Support Manager (BRISBANE/PERTH)
Telair is one of Australia’s longest-standing independent business telco providers: 20 years in business, growing fast, and known for actually answering the phone when customers call. As we scale our support function, we’re hiring a Technical Support Manager to own the operational and people leadership of our Technical Support team across Brisbane and Perth.
The Opportunity
This is a leadership role, not a queue role. You’ll own daily operations, SLA delivery, team development, and the platforms that underpin support, reporting directly to the CTO. The team handles fault diagnosis and restoration across our full product set: fibre, copper and wireless Ethernet, SD-WAN, NBN, hosted voice (Webex and MyCloudPBX), SIP trunks, and managed IT.
You’ll be technically credible enough to step into the queue on a complex ticket or cover an absence, but the real job is building a team that doesn’t need you in the queue. Beyond reliable day-to-day delivery, the distinctive part of this role is the systems and continuous-improvement work: platform optimisation, automation, QA, SOPs, and reporting maturity.
Full-time, permanent, based in-office five days a week at our Brisbane or Perth offices.
What you’ll do
-
Lead and manage the Technical Support team across Brisbane and Perth: Technical Support Specialists, Senior Technical Support Specialists, and Network Support Specialists.
-
Own rostering, resourcing, and workload distribution for reliable coverage across extended business hours and both locations.
-
Run daily standups, hold regular 1:1s, conduct performance reviews, and drive a structured training and development programme.
-
Act as the senior point of contact for high-impact, sensitive, or cross-team customer escalations.
-
Own the ticket QA programme, reviewing resolutions for accuracy, completeness, and SLA compliance, and giving structured feedback.
-
Own the configuration and continuous improvement of the ticketing platform: workflows, automations, SLA rules, dashboards, and integrations.
-
Identify and implement AI tools, automations, and smart workflows to lift efficiency and reduce manual overhead.
-
Align SLAs to business commitments across phone, tickets, and chat, and run the NPS programme.
-
Define and track team and individual KPIs, and produce monthly and quarterly performance reporting for the CTO.
-
Route work requiring core network change to Network Engineering, while the helpdesk retains ownership of diagnosis and first-line resolution.
About you
-
Proven people leadership in a helpdesk, service desk, or technical support environment, with a track record of building high-performing teams.
-
Solid telecommunications support background, enough to lead a technical team credibly, assist on complex tickets, and engage confidently with escalated customers.
-
Strong operational management: rostering, SLA ownership, workload balancing, and escalation management.
-
Demonstrated experience owning and optimising a ticketing / customer service platform.
-
Data-driven, comfortable with KPI definition, reporting, and using metrics to drive real improvement.
-
Proven ability to implement process automations, AI tools, or workflow improvements in a support environment.
-
Excellent communication and coaching skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strongly preferred
-
Familiarity with ITIL frameworks or formal problem management.
-
Experience in telecommunications or ISP support environments.
-
Experience with Nuclino, Confluence, or equivalent knowledge management platforms.
-
Familiarity with Yealink, Webex, NBN, or similar technologies in our product stack.
Why Telair
-
20 years in business, independently owned, profitable and growing.
-
A genuinely leadership-focused role: you’ll build the function, not firefight it.
-
Strong technical and network engineering teams behind you, and a CTO who answers questions.
-
Brisbane or Perth based, office-based: we work together, not behind a screen.
-
Values-led: we say what we mean, we follow through, and we look after our customers and our team.

Senior Core Network Engineer (MELBOURNE)
Telair is one of Australia’s longest-standing independent business telco providers: 20 years in business, growing fast, and known for actually answering the phone when customers call. We’re hiring a Senior Core Network Engineer to be the senior technical authority for the day-to-day engineering of our core network.
The opportunity
This is a hands-on individual contributor role, the top of our engineering ladder, focused on delivering network change safely, resolving complex escalations, and maintaining the monitoring and alerting that keeps our services reliable. Working closely with the Network Infrastructure Manager, you’ll translate design and project intent into executed, well-documented change across our core network and supporting systems.
Our network is actively evolving: toward a fully redundant core, automation driven from NetBox as the single source of truth, and the retirement of legacy platforms. You’ll be central to that agenda alongside business-as-usual operations. You’ll also lead the network engineers day to day, setting technical direction, mentoring, reviewing work, and managing coverage and rostering, while formal people management sits with the CTO.
Full-time, permanent, Melbourne-based.
What you’ll do
-
Own the network change control process end to end: author scopes of work, plan and risk-assess changes, and execute maintenance windows.
-
Configure, maintain and optimise the core: Juniper (Junos) core, Ufispace / OcNOS NNI aggregation, MikroTik CGNAT, BGP/ISIS routing, carrier interconnects, and IP addressing.
-
Deliver the redundant-core program and migrate services off legacy platforms (MikroTik BNGs, legacy MPLS).
-
Act as the senior L3 escalation point for complex faults from Technical Support, including long-running international throughput and latency disputes, and drive them to resolution.
-
Lead detailed investigations into faults, performance degradation, and anomalies using a structured, evidence-based methodology.
-
Maintain and improve monitoring and dashboards (Grafana on TimescaleDB), logging (Graylog), and alerting (PagerDuty), continuously refining alert signal-to-noise.
-
Plan and perform scheduled maintenance including after-hours windows, and participate in the PagerDuty on-call roster.
-
Build and maintain endpoints in our in-house Python API platform (Marvin), and advance NetBox-driven config generation and reality-vs-intended audit.
-
Create and maintain network documentation and runbooks, keeping NetBox current as the source of truth.
-
Lead and mentor the network engineers, setting technical direction and managing day-to-day coverage.
Current & upcoming work
-
Redundant core migration: complete NNI migration onto the aggregation layer for core failover; finish moving TC4 subscribers from MX80s to MX204s.
-
Monitoring modernisation: complete the Influx to TimescaleDB migration onto a single scalable stack.
-
Automation on a NetBox source of truth: API-driven provisioning and diagnostics, config generation, and audit.
-
Legacy decommissioning: migrate off legacy MikroTik BNGs; retire the legacy MPLS management network.
-
CGNAT and IPv6: replace virtual MikroTik CGNAT with physical routers; progress IPv6 for CGNAT subscribers.
-
Emerging: build out a Containerlab production replica and contribute to AI-assisted change-control and diagnostic tooling.
About you
-
Deep, current service-provider / telco networking knowledge: routing protocols, carrier interconnects (NNI), CGNAT, and IP transit and peering.
-
Hands-on Juniper (Junos) configuration and troubleshooting is essential; OcNOS and MikroTik RouterOS exposure is highly desirable.
-
Proven ability to plan, risk-assess, document, and execute change in a live, business-critical environment with minimal service impact.
-
Solid, practical Python: you’ll build and extend API endpoints, work with NetBox-driven config generation, and automate testing and monitoring. This stays a hands-on network role, but you must be genuinely comfortable reading, writing, and debugging Python against real APIs.
-
Familiarity with the observability stack (Grafana, TimescaleDB, Graylog, PagerDuty, NetBox) or clear equivalents, and a source-of-truth, infrastructure-as-code mindset.
-
Able to work independently as a senior IC, taking end-to-end ownership of changes, escalations, and investigations.
Why Telair
-
20 years in business, independently owned, profitable and growing.
-
A network with a real roadmap: redundant core, automation-first, legacy retirement. You’ll shape it, not just maintain it.
-
The most senior individual contributor role in the network team, with genuine technical authority.
-
Melbourne-based, aligned to our data centre footprint.
-
Values-led: we say what we mean, we follow through, and we look after our customers and our team.
